Concealing Your Tattoos

How To Use Concealer To Cover Up Tattoos

Tattoos are a form of self-expression, but sometimes they may not be appropriate for certain situations. If you have a tattoo that you want to cover up for a job interview, a formal event, or any other reason, using concealer is an effective solution. In this blog post, we’ll discuss how to use concealer to cover up tattoos and achieve a flawless finish.

Step 1: Choose the Right Concealer

Choosing the right concealer is crucial for achieving a flawless finish. You need to find a concealer that matches your skin tone and has full coverage. Look for a concealer that is specifically designed to cover tattoos, scars, and other imperfections.

Step 2: Prep Your Skin

Before applying the concealer, you need to prep your skin. Clean the tattooed area with soap and water, and then dry it thoroughly. Next, apply a primer to the tattooed area to ensure that the concealer stays in place and doesn’t smudge or fade.

Step 3: Apply the Concealer

Using a small brush, apply the concealer to the tattooed area. Start by applying a thin layer and then build up the coverage as needed. Make sure to blend the concealer well into your skin to avoid any harsh lines.

Step 4: Set the Concealer

After applying the concealer, you need to set it with powder to ensure that it stays in place. Use a translucent powder or a powder that matches your skin tone to set the concealer. Apply the powder with a brush or a sponge, and then gently press it onto the tattooed area.

Step 5: Repeat if Necessary

If the tattoo is still visible, repeat the process until you achieve the desired coverage. It may take a few layers of concealer and powder to completely cover the tattoo.

Step 6: Remove the Concealer

When you’re ready to remove the concealer, use a gentle makeup remover to avoid irritating your skin. Gently massage the remover onto the tattooed area, and then rinse with warm water.

Additional tips to consider when using concealer to cover up tattoos:

  1. Use color correcting concealer: If your tattoo has a lot of red or blue tones, you may want to use a color correcting concealer before applying your regular concealer. Green color corrector will help neutralize red tones, while peach color corrector will help neutralize blue tones.
  2. Use a small brush: A small, dense brush will allow you to apply the concealer precisely and cover up even the smallest details of the tattoo.
  3. Choose a long-lasting formula: Look for a concealer that is water-resistant and long-lasting, so you don’t have to worry about touch-ups throughout the day.
  4. Blend carefully: When blending the concealer, make sure to blend the edges well to avoid any obvious lines or patches.
  5. Practice before the big day: If you’re using concealer to cover up a tattoo for a special occasion, it’s a good idea to practice a few times beforehand to ensure you get the coverage and finish you want.

A few more tips to keep in mind when using concealer to cover up tattoos:

  1. Don’t overdo it: While it may be tempting to keep layering on the concealer until the tattoo is completely invisible, too much product can look cakey and unnatural. Start with a thin layer and build up coverage gradually as needed.
  2. Consider using a color-correcting primer: In addition to using a color-correcting concealer, you can also use a color-correcting primer to neutralize any unwanted tones in the tattoo. For example, a green primer can help cancel out red tones, while a purple primer can help cancel out yellow tones.
  3. Use a setting spray: Once you’ve applied your concealer and powder, use a setting spray to lock everything in place. This will help your makeup last longer and prevent smudging or fading.
  4. Be mindful of clothing: If you’re covering up a tattoo on your arms or legs, be careful when putting on clothing to avoid rubbing off the concealer. Wear loose-fitting clothing or wait until the concealer has fully set before getting dressed.

With these tips in mind, you should be able to effectively cover up your tattoo with concealer and enjoy a flawless finish. Just remember to choose the right products, prep your skin properly, blend well, and set everything in place with powder and setting spray
