Three sisters from NYC discovered the miraculous ingredient from Ghana, explored it thoroughly, and eventually crafted an entire skincare line around it.The beauty line’s success is due in no small part to the experience of Dr. Naana Boakye, a 42-year old world renowned dermatologist, but their combined passion for natural plant extracts and clean ingredients ultimately brought her vision to life.

Boakye, the gorgeous CEO of this brand, often encounters many patients with allergies to common OTC products. Thus she has found natural ingredients that have been used for thousands of years much more successfully in helping her patients. She is joined by Akua Okunseinde (35) and Abena Slowe (40), who are respectively the CCO and COO.

Hailing from Ghana but primarily growing up in the United States, three sisters remained connected to their roots through traditional skin-care rituals passed down by family. Okunseinde recounts that “Many people there use a raw, unrefined shea butter which is relatively unknown here; it’s an intense yellow and thick consistency making it difficult to spread. Yet even so, I can honestly say this is the most moisturizing product I’ve ever used!”

The siblings would combine this with lotions they found at stores— unknowingly contaminating them with additives such as preservatives and emulsifiers along with potential hormone disruptors.

After becoming moms, the trio developed a heightened awareness of the potential toxins lurking in conventional skincare items and felt an urgent need to make their beloved cream clean. This thus inspired them to create Karité.

The ingenious sisters have perfected a technique which fluidly combines oil- and water- based elements without the addition of harsh chemical emulsifiers. This technology allows them to formulate with only essential ingredients, making their butter perfect for those with delicate skin types.

Our most preferred body butter is composed of 30% shea, which provides vital fatty acids and antioxidant vitamins A & E. Moreover, it features calming rosemary-leaf extract as well as nourishing coconut oil, sunflower seed oil and sustainably sourced palm oils from our family’s factory in Ghana.
