A Simple Guide to Applying Eyeshadow

If you want to achieve a natural, everyday look with your eyeshadow, stick to one color. For days when you’re feeling bolder, try using three shades that complement each other.

Regardless of the number of colors you use, focus on blending them together for a more seamless appearance. You can also use your fingers instead of a brush if that’s easier for you.

Start With a Base Color

Your entire lid should be a neutral color. Make sure the shade you choose has undertones that match your skin tone and is lighter than the other two shades of shadow you will use. Apply this shade to the middle of your lid, sweeping outward.

Gently dab a small amount on the inner lid, too. Matte colors can actually be really great base colors, especially if your palette has shimmery shades!

It’s Time for the Crease of Your Eyelid

In the crease of your lid, you’ll apply a shade that is darker than your base color but still relatively neutral. To apply, begin in the middle of your lid at the crease and sweep the shadow gently upward and outward.

Darker Shades on the Outer Lid

To create definition, use the darkest eye color on the outer third corner of your eyelids. Apply the product in a wedge shape with your fingertip or a small brush to the bottom outer corner of your lid and then blend colors together from the outer-middle portion outward, but not quite reaching the middle point.

Do Not Forget the Inner Corner

A small bit of luminizer is all you need to highlight the inner corner of the eye. If you use too much, it can make your eye look as though it’s set too far back. So just one swipe will do. Use your finger to blend the luminizer toward the middle of your lid for a natural finish.
