The Perfect Eyeshadow Application

How to Achieve a Flawless Eyeshadow Look

If you’re unsure of how to apply eyeshadow or consider yourself a pro, avoiding making common mistakes is key to having evenly applied makeup.

Use this eight-step guide from a makeup artist to apply eyeshadow flawlessly. A little practice and the perfect products will give you long-lasting results.

Step One: Gather Your Supplies

Before you begin, make sure to gather all the tools you will need. This way, you can work quickly and efficiently.

Makeup Brushes

It cannot be overemphasized how important the right brushes are. You will need, at the very least, two brushes for adequate application.

One rounded and elongated brush for cream-based shadows and one flat with densely packed bristles to apply powder shadow effectively. If you have several of each type on hand, it’ll enable you to change colors rapidly without taking time in between to clean your tools.

Primer

Not only does primer dry the skin, but it also provides a foundation for your makeup. However, you have to be mindful as the skin around your eyes is thinner and more delicate than the rest of your body. Furthermore, this area doesn’t produce sebum so it’s easier to experience dryness.

A little goes a long way with eye primer- using too much can cause your skin to dry out and flake, which in turn will make it difficult to apply eyeshadow evenly.

Eyeshadow Palette

Whether you’re needing a bold look for a night out or something more natural for work, there’s an 100% Pure palette perfect for any occasion. All of our shadows come in powder form and are made with only the cleanest ingredients available.

If trying new eyeshadow shades makes you nervous, we recommend sticking to one or two colors that go well together and will blend smoothly.

Setting Spray

Although setting powders and sprays are available to help your shadows last, you likely don’t need them if you apply your shadow correctly and choose a formula that lasts long.

Step Two: Apply Primer

Start with your primer, but don’t forget that less is often more when it comes to choosing a primer for delicate eyelids. Also, make sure to pick a formula without drying ingredients; otherwise, it could irritate your eyelids.

It’s key to use only a tiny bit of oil on your lids if you must use any at all—the less product on oily lids, the better.

Step Three: Find a Style that Compliments Your Eye Shape

To have long-lasting and good looking eyeshadow, find styles that match your eye’s natural shape. With the right techniques, you can emphasize your eyes’ best features without making it look like you tried too hard.

Almond Eyes

Almond-shaped eyes can wear any type of shadow style; however, the best way to make almond-shaped eyes look great is by carrying your shadow slightly past the end of your lid in an upturned wing shape.

You can easily create a beautiful and defined eye look by using only two colors. First, apply the first color to your crease and then blend the second color from the middle of your eyelid to the edge or wing.

Round Eyes

If you want to make round eyes look longer, use shadows. Begin by winging your shadow from the center of your eye outward and upward. Remember not to put dark eyeliner or shadow on the lower half of your eye as this will only emphasize the round shape.

Monolid Eyes

Monolid eyes have less of a crease on the lid, making them ideal for experimentation with eye shadow shades and colors.

Eyes with a monolid can wear shadows concentrated in the middle of the lid to create more depth and drama. To elongate the eyes even further, sweep shadow upwards at the outer corners.

Hooded Eyes

Having hooded eyes can make it Shadowing your eyelids with makeup can be more difficult than usual, so it’s advisable to stick to one or two colors.

Step Four: Select Your Colors (Or Make Your Own!)

Depending on the look you want and which type of shadow is easiest for you to use, will determine the specific formula you choose.

Deciding Between Powder and Cream Shadows

Depending on your own strengths and the color range, you might prefer powder or cream shadows to get a flawless look.

Cream-based shadows are usually simpler to blend, especially if your lids have a tendency to dryness. If you’re getting older, then creamy shadows help hydrate your skin, which is beneficial.Cream-based shadows

The Benefits Of Applying Wet Eyeshadow

The primary benefit is that it’s easier to blend the colors together, and it also creates a bolder color impact with longer staying power.

If you wet your eyeshadow brush before applying shadow, this will also be a technique used when you plan to smudge your shadow. You might use this technique to create a smokey-eye look, or when you are wanting to utilize your eyeshadow in place of eyeliner.

Step Five: Apply an All-Over Color

Your first color should be a lighter, more subtle shade. This will become your basecolor. Gently apply the eyeshadow across your entire eyelid, being careful not to go too high up past the brow bone. If you plan on continuing with a winged look, extend this shadow slightly further out than the outer edge of your eye.

In order to avoid an excessive makeup look, use colors that will act as a counterbalance to any discoloration on your eyelid. for example, if you have a pink undertoneffect on your lid, try using other tones like green or purple instead of continuing with the same color family by using a pink eyeshadow.

Step Six: Use a Darker Pigment in Your Crease

Starting from the middle of your crease, apply a darker color outward towards the edge of your eye. Unless you have rounded eyes, you can go further inward on the crease with the shadow. Rounded eyes should stick to applying shadow closer to their natural shape so as not to accentuate it too much.

Step Seven: Below the Brow and to the Inside Corner, Add Highlighter

If you decide to use a highlighting shade, apply it just below the brow (where you stopped applying your base color).

You can also add a small amount to the inside corner of your eyes. If you don’t want to use a highlighting shade, blend your crease color with your base shade instead.

Step Eight: Setting Your Look

A light, translucent powder can help your look last longer. However, if you’re using high-quality shadows—such as those from 100% Pure—you usually won’t need to set them at all.

How to Pick The Perfect Eyeshadow

We believe that what you use on your eyes is just as crucial as how it appears when applied. Here’s our suggestion of qualities to look for in an excellent eyeshadow.

Buildable

With buildable coverage, you can have a light application to start, and then add more as needed. This is opposed to richly pigmented shadows that are easy to make a mistake with – if you don’t like it, you would need to wipe your whole makeup off and start again.

Pigmented

Even if you typically use lighter colors, the pigment in your shadows should be visible and last throughout the day. Avoid shadows that contain synthetic dyes, as they can cause harsh side effects like eye sensitivity.

100% Pure uses only natural ingredients that are safe for the eyes and always cleanest available – we never compromises our standards.

Cruelty-free

We love our furry friends, which is why at 100% Pure we only use vegan ingredients in all of our eyeshadows. We believe that beauty products should make you happy, not guilty.

Effortless to Apply

Regardless of your skill level, anyone can appreciate a product that is easy to apply. The natural ingredients in 100% Pure’s Fruit Pigmented Rose Gold Palette glide on smoothly and evenly, resulting in beautifully effortless looks.

Our shadows are special because they contain five to eight colors instead of just one. This creates a natural, light-reflective contour that is much more flattering than the paint-by-number look other products give.

Clean Formula

At 100% Pure, we strongly believe that what you put on your skin should be good enough to eat. Our natural eyeshadows are made with only food-grade ingredients and no harmful chemicals. We offer a wide range of beautiful colors that are gentle and safe for your delicate eyelid skin.
