Castor oil contains ricinoleic acid, which can stimulate hair growth in two different ways. First, it increases circulation and supplies blood to the hair follicles. Second, it helps to re-balance your hair’s pH level, healing damage from harsh products and restoring hair’s oil balance. It also contains healthy antioxidants to boost keratin. These properties make castor oil a magic ingredient when it comes to eyelash health.
Vitamin E is a key nutrient with clinically proven benefits for your hair. By applying it to your lashes, you’ll stimulate circulation to your hair follicles and strengthen your lashes. Vitamin E is also a powerful antioxidant that can help to reduce damage caused by free radicals, and also prevent against future damage.
Lavender oil is also known to lengthen hair. It has moisturizing properties to condition your lashes, helping them to grow longer and stronger, and it also increases shine!
Green tea is rich in vitamin C and other antioxidants to nourish your hair follicles, boost circulation, and heal damage from free radicals. Most importantly for your lashes, it contains flavonoids—phytonutrients with intense anti-inflammatory properties. These flavonoids’ anti-inflammatory powers are extremely beneficial to the pores and follicles. They’ll help to undo damage from harmful beauty products, and naturally lengthen lashes.
Before you start, you’ll need an empty, BPA-free mascara tube (which you can buy online or in many convenience stores). As a substitute, you can use a small, empty jar and a lash comb or cotton swab. Most women find that it’s worth investing in a lash brush to thoroughly apply their serum.
To make the serum, brew a strong cup of organic green tea and allow it to cool completely. Using an eyedropper or a teaspoon, remove a small amount of tea from the cup and slowly add it to the empty mascara tube. Keep adding it until the tea fills up about 1/4 of the tube. Carefully add lavender oil to fill up another ⅛ of the tube, then vitamin E oil to fill up another ⅛. The tube should now be halfway full. Finally, add castor oil to fill up the remainder of the tube, and then shake well to combine the ingredients.
You can use this serum up to two times per day to lengthen and strengthen your eyelashes. The green tea in the recipe will help to dilute the vitamin E oil and lavender oil so that they won’t be too strong for everyday use.
Thoroughly remove all eye makeup before applying the serum. For best results, gently hold a warm washcloth against your eyelid for 20 seconds before applying the serum. This will help to open up your pores and purge your hair follicles of dirt, preparing them to absorb the serum. Give your tube or jar of serum another shake to mix the ingredients again. Then use your lash comb or cotton swab to apply a single coat of serum to your top and bottom lashes.
This home remedy for eyelashes is a great way to grow eyelashes naturally, but it’s also important to supply your body with a healthy diet if you want strong, healthy lashes. Seek collagen-rich seafood and bone broths, vitamin-rich fruits and vegetables, and plenty of greens. You can also limit external damage to your lashes by steering clear of potentially harmful procedures, and products with parabens and other chemicals that damage lashes.
