Contour With Concealer!

Tips And Tricks For Using Concealer To Contour

Contouring is a popular makeup technique that involves using different shades of makeup to sculpt and define the features of the face. While many people use a bronzer or powder to contour, concealer can also be used for a more precise and natural-looking effect. Here are some tips and tricks for using concealer to contour your face:

Choose the Right Shade

When using concealer for contouring, it’s important to choose a shade that is 2-3 shades darker than your skin tone. This will help create the illusion of shadow and depth, which is key to contouring.

Map Out Your Face

Before you start applying concealer, it’s helpful to map out your face. Use a contour stick or a pencil to mark the areas where you want to contour, such as the hollows of your cheeks, the sides of your nose, and your jawline. This will help you apply the concealer more precisely and evenly.

Blend, Blend, Blend

One of the keys to a natural-looking contour is to blend the concealer well. Use a blending sponge or brush to blend the concealer into your skin, making sure there are no harsh lines or streaks.

Layer for Intensity

If you want a more intense contour, you can layer the concealer. Apply a thin layer of concealer and blend it in, then apply another layer and blend again. Repeat until you achieve the desired intensity.

Highlight to Enhance

To enhance the contour even further, you can use a lighter shade of concealer to highlight the areas of your face that you want to bring forward, such as the bridge of your nose, the center of your forehead, and the tops of your cheekbones.

Set with Powder

To make sure your contour stays in place all day, set it with a translucent powder. This will also help prevent any creasing or smudging.

Practice Makes Perfect

Like any makeup technique, mastering concealer contouring takes practice. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different shades and techniques until you find the perfect look for your face shape and skin tone.

Use a Cream Concealer

For a more seamless blend, use a cream concealer instead of a liquid one. Cream concealers tend to have a thicker consistency, making it easier to apply and blend.

Use a Tapered Brush

A tapered brush is perfect for applying concealer to smaller areas of the face, such as the nose and jawline. Its pointed shape allows for precise application and blending.

Blend Your Contour with Your Foundation

To make your contour look more natural, blend it with your foundation. This will create a more cohesive look, rather than having a noticeable line between your contour and foundation.

Apply Concealer to the Temples

Applying concealer to the temples can help create a more sculpted look. Use a shade that is slightly darker than your skin tone and blend it inwards towards your hairline.

Use a Peach Concealer for Dark Circles

If you have dark circles under your eyes, use a peach or orange-toned concealer to neutralize the darkness. Apply the concealer in a triangular shape under your eyes and blend it in with a sponge or brush.

Don’t Overdo It

When it comes to contouring with concealer, less is often more. Start with a light hand and build up the intensity slowly. It’s easier to add more than to remove excess product.

Use the Right Lighting

When contouring with concealer, it’s important to use the right lighting. Natural light is best, as it allows you to see the true colors and textures of the makeup. Avoid using artificial lighting or lighting that is too dim or too bright.

Choose the Right Formula

Different formulas of concealer can have different effects on the skin. For example, a matte formula may be more suitable for oily skin, while a hydrating formula may be better for dry skin. Choose a formula that works best for your skin type.

Use a Color-Correcting Concealer

If you have discoloration or uneven skin tone, using a color-correcting concealer can help balance out the color before contouring. For example, a green-toned concealer can neutralize redness, while a lavender-toned concealer can brighten dull skin.

Apply Concealer to Your Jawline

Applying concealer to your jawline can help create a more defined and sculpted look. Use a shade that is slightly darker than your skin tone and blend it in downwards towards your neck.

Use a Setting Spray

To make sure your contour stays in place all day, use a setting spray after applying your makeup. This will help lock in your makeup and prevent it from fading or smudging.

Use a Light Hand When Contouring Your Nose

When contouring your nose, use a light hand and blend well to avoid a harsh or unnatural look. Apply the concealer to the sides of your nose and blend it outwards towards your cheeks.

Practice Different Techniques

There are many different techniques for contouring with concealer, such as the triangle method, the stripe method, and the dotting method. Practice different techniques to see which one works best for you and your face shape.

Use a Mirror to Check Your Contouring

When contouring with concealer, it’s important to step back and check your work in a mirror. This will allow you to see if the contour is too harsh or too light, and make any necessary adjustments.

Blend Your Contour into Your Hairline

To create a more natural look, blend your contour into your hairline. This will create a seamless transition between your face and hair, making your contour look more natural and subtle.

Don’t Be Afraid to Experiment

Contouring with concealer is all about experimenting and finding what works best for you. Don’t be afraid to try new techniques or shades, and have fun with it!

By following these tips and tricks, you can create a flawless and natural-looking contour using concealer. Remember to take your time, blend well, and experiment to find your perfect contouring look.
