Why Vitamin C Serums Can Give You Radiant Skin

The Benefits of Vitamin C Serums

“Have you found the fountain of youth?” If there is one topical skin-care product that can make you look younger—no matter your age or skin type—it’s vitamin C, especially in its most potent form, L-ascorbic acid. The list of benefits from using a vitamin C serum are vast: Your skin will be firmer, smoother, and more nourished after just one use. Perhaps most importantly though, regular use will give you an absolutely radiant complexion.

This vitamin C serum contains L-ascorbic acid, the only form of vitamin C that can be used topically. It is designed to penetrate deep into your skin and provide protection from UV damage, while brightening away hyperpigmentation and encouraging the growth of collagen and elastin fibers. Hyaluronic acid binds moisture to your skin to prevent dryness.

Vitamin C helps evening skin tone, brightening dark spots, and minimizing fine lines and wrinkles

Dr. Jeanine Downie, a New Jersey dermatologist, says that vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that can help build collagen and soften the look of dark spots. She also claims that almost all antioxidants can help limit the formation of free radicals in the skin caused by exposure to sunlight or pollution; however, topical vitamin C has been shown to have a mild sun-protective effect as well (but it cannot be used instead of sunscreen). Not only does vitamin C help slough off dead skin cells, but it can also improve your complexion by evening out skin tone and making it brighter. According to Downie, “If you use it regularly, vitamin C can even decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.” You can work this nutrient into your routine either in the morning or at night (or both!).

Sensitive Skin? Look for Vitamin C formulas that also contain moisturizers like hyaluronic acid or calming ingredients like turmeric.

How and When to Use Vitamin C in Your Skincare

After you cleanse your skin, apply vitamin C as the first layer. Wait a few minutes, then add a nourishing oil or moisturizer if your skin needs more hydration. To supercharge both the vitamin C and other ingredients in your skincare routine, use a vibrating T bar: It helps push active ingredients deeper into the skin and leaves you with an incredible glow.

Make sure to finish your daily skincare routine with a mineral sunscreen for the best protection against UV rays
