The Dos and Don’ts of Sun Protection

The Dos and Don’ts of Sun Protection for Healthy Skin

With summer just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about sun protection. Sun exposure can have both short-term and long-term effects on your skin, including sunburn, premature aging, and even skin cancer. It’s essential to take steps to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Here are some dos and don’ts of sun protection to help you maintain healthy skin this summer and beyond.

Do:

  1. Wear Sunscreen

One of the most important steps in sun protection is to wear sunscreen. Sunscreen protects your skin from harmful UV rays, reducing your risk of sunburn, premature aging, and skin cancer. Look for a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, such as the Green Tea SPF 30 from 100% PURE, and make sure it is broad-spectrum, which means it provides protection against both UVA and UVB rays.

Important: Don’t forget to reapply sunscreen every two hours, especially if you’re spending time in the water or sweating.

  1. Cover Up

Another way to protect your skin from the sun is to cover up. Wear protective clothing, such as long-sleeved shirts and pants, as well as a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses. This can help to protect your skin from the sun, especially during peak hours when the sun is at its strongest.

  1. Seek Shade

When possible, seek shade during the hottest parts of the day, from 10 am to 4 pm. This is when the sun is at its strongest, and it’s essential to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. If you’re outside during this time, make sure to wear protective clothing, a hat, and sunscreen, and try to stay in the shade as much as possible.

  1. Stay Hydrated

Drinking plenty of water is important for healthy skin, and it’s especially important in the summer when you’re spending more time in the sun. Dehydration can lead to dry, dull skin, and it can also make you more susceptible to sunburn. So make sure to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated throughout the day.

Don’t:

  1. Neglect to Apply Sunscreen to Exposed Areas

One of the biggest mistakes people make when it comes to sun protection is forgetting to apply sunscreen to exposed areas. Make sure to apply sunscreen to all exposed skin, including your face, neck, arms, legs, and back.

Let us remind you again! Don’t forget to reapply sunscreen every two hours, especially if you’re spending time in the water or sweating.

  1. Underestimate the Power of the Sun

Many people don’t realize just how powerful the sun can be, even on cloudy days. The UV rays can penetrate through clouds, so protecting your skin is essential even on cloudy days. Make sure to wear sunscreen and protective clothing, and seek shade whenever possible.

  1. Forget to Protect Your Lips

Your lips are just as susceptible to sun damage as the rest of your skin, so make sure to protect them as well. Use a lip balm with SPF to protect your lips from the sun’s harmful UV rays.

  1. Neglect to Check Your Skin

It’s important to check your skin regularly for any changes or irregularities, such as new moles or spots that are changing in size or color. If you notice any changes, make sure to see a dermatologist as soon as possible. Skin cancer is much easier to treat when it’s caught early, so make sure to take care of your skin and protect it from the sun.

Care For Your Skin

In summary, sun protection is a critical aspect of maintaining healthy skin. By following the dos and don’ts of sun protection, you can help to reduce your risk of sunburn, premature aging, and skin cancer and keep your skin looking its best. So make sure to protect your skin from the sun this summer and beyond.
